There are great things happening in Ballyfermot. Not only are there about 10 community childcare crèches, but the highly trained workers in all these facilities took on the extra burden to further educate themselves, in order to provide the children with an even better educational experience.
As you may know, it was 14 years since I lost my seat in Dáil Éireann before I was re-elected in February 2011. So it was of great interest to me to be invited by TURAS to the presentation of certificates to their participating students.
The Dublin Bus Communities Awards is a fine event, on a par with Dublin City Councils citywide Tidy Districts Awards. There are two similarities, they both award community endeavour and they are both held in Croke Park, and, I almost forgot, they both have wonderful meals and refreshments provided.
Minister Alan Kelly and Niall Quinn officiated and our own Olympic Champion from the Drimnagh Boxing Club Michael Carruth was also in attendance.
Again individual groups from Dublin South Central were winners including the Mercy Family Centre, South Brown Street, Saint Dominic’s Secondary School Ballyfermot and the Dublin 8 Community Education Centre as was our dear friend from the Drimnagh community Mr Edmond Lynch.
