The Markievicz Centre in Ballyfermot hosted a wonderful event to celebrate the achievements of the women who were participants as Community Employment (CE) workers, where they were awarded their FETAC Certificates.
The event was organised by the inimitable CE supervisor Theresa McGowan, and the venue was the remarkably successful building run and managed by Dublin City Council in the Civic Centre.
This Civic Centre is at a wonderful location, and a venue that facilitates many community organisations that run their offices from within, and with its own theatre it is an example that should be replicated throughout Dublin.
What was particularly nice about these certificate presentations was the engagement between the Markievicz staff, participants and the new, ex-FÁS, now Department of Social Protection, staff who now administer the funding for CE. I was delighted to hear Mr. Tom Rowan from the Department of Social Protection praise the work of the Markievicz Centre and it staff and participants, given the worries that the cutback in funding was going to have an effect on the very sustainability of CE projects.
It is reassuring that there is no plan to cut the numbers on CE. Take a look at the proud recipients accepting their well-deserved Certificates of Achievements.
