There is one Irish characteristic that stands out and is the envy of many of our European counterparts, and it is the wonderful generosity of volunteers who devote their spare time for the betterment of our fellow man/women.
Events like this Christmas celebration for the elderly of Rialto and Dolphin's Barn would not happen without this priceless voluntary support by residents who concern themselves about the wellbeing of their elderly neighbours.
This event can only happen every Christmas after huge superhuman organisation and fundraising, and to the organisers we owe our gratitude.
This party was held in McCauley’s pub, South Circular Road, Rialto, where the elders were entertained and enjoyed a fine meal and great company.
Long may the spirit of social solidarity last as peoples lives are enriched and, I hope, the volunteers feel some satisfaction having done their elderly neighbours some service.
