There are very few Residents Associations that can boast of being around as long as the Walkinstown Residents Association, and I think it is appropriate to applaud the outgoing Committee who attended this year’s AGM.
1st July 2012 was one of the few dry days in July, lucky that it was, as the Walkinstown/Crumlin Communities got together to celebrate all their great activities.
Towards the end of May 2011, I dropped along to see how Foroige was doing with its Youth Citizenship Regional Awards Programme which was held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel Blanchardstown.
Although I was unsure if there would be any of the many youth groups in my constituency of Dublin South Central represented, to my joy and pleasant surprise, good old Walkinstown was our only flag bearer for the whole constituency.
Thanks to the dedication and work of both Catherine O’Toole and Debbie Laffan, the wonderful youth of Walkinstown were there to present their “Straight To The Point” (S.T.T.P.) Foroige Youth Café project. Their project was “A Restoration Project for the local community centre which had become run down over the years. The members held a fundraising disco in aid of the repair fund to help towards creating a top class centre for all community groups, young and old, to use”
As you know, most groups and organizations organise their Christmas Parties in December, but the weather in 2010 was so bad that some groups got together in January when the weather had changed for the better.
Some time ago, I was pleased to attend the opening of the refurbished tennis courts in Walkinstown Park.
