1st July 2012 was one of the few dry days in July, lucky that it was, as the Walkinstown/Crumlin Communities got together to celebrate all their great activities.
In the past, I was the Independent Chairman of the Labre Park Inter-Agency Committee in Ballyfermot and learned a lot about the developments in a range of areas, not least of which was the role education is playing in the life of Travellers.
Not so long ago, many of us would be familiar with the Traveller women knocking on our doors, looking for “any old clothes”.
Well, those days are almost gone as the competition for “old clothes” intensifies.
It is always a great pleasure to be invited by the Loreto Centre, Crumlin, to see them display the work of their participants in their “Adult Community Education Centre” activities.
On the evening of May 25th. 2012 the Streets of Drimnagh became alive with the sound of music. The Crumlin Community Youth Band provided the music for the start of the Drimnagh Festival 2012 as they led the parade of the various community groups and residents of Drimnagh to the Drimnagh Boxing Club to meet up with the special invited sporting heroes.
Sporting heroes Michael Carruth and Paul Mc Grath gave generously to making this years Festival a resounding success. Their obviously love of the youth of Drimnagh was obvious as they gave their heroes a heroes welcome.
