Standing Up for You
I took some time out of Dáil Business to visit the exhibition and see the projects of the four local constituency schools participating.
To say that these students impressed me was to say the least of my astonishment at such apparent knowledge and skills in students so young.
An important way to introduce students to our democratic system is to bring them into Dáil Éireann to see how our democracy operates.
There are three ways of organising school trips to visit the Dáil and Seanad.
On Wednesday 8 June, I was pleased to welcome the Assumption Senior Girls' National School to Dáil Éireann on a tour of the Oireachtas.
The 5th class (Primary) began their day with a tour of both houses of the Oireachtas and finished with a question and answer session.
It might have taken 5 years to “officially” open St Ultans School in Cherry Orchard, but it was worth waiting to have our wonderful President Mary McAleese officiate at the event, along with the Dublin Archbishop Diarmuid Martin.
Last Thursday I was pleased to welcome Our Lady of Mercy (Mourne Road) school to Dáil Éireann on a tour of the Oireachtas.
